The Grenade golf driver is manufactured using a 2 piece cast construction and plasma welded face plate. This high end process combined with a TI-1188 face plate increases ball speeds at impact. The 1188 stands for the tensile strength (hardness) of the titanium. These materials and production process create a loud and clean sound that you will love and your friends will envy. An independent reviewer from Bunker's Paradise described his feeling when hit it solid as, "center strikes literally invoked a knee-jerk verbal reflex, whoa." You will see, feel and hear the difference.
Loudmouth Apparel is here to meet your needs!I was fortunate enough to be able to receive a couple of pairs of new Loudmouth Pants and write a review about my experience with them! Before I go into more detail about these pants I would like to mention that there are a ton of new styles that have just been released AND there is a Father's Day Sale ON NOW! Click here to check out the Loudmouth Golf Canada site and get your new clothing NOW!

To begin, I've always loved my Loudmouth pants for many reasons. They're comfortable, stretch a little bit, make a splash, a breathable, light feeling feeling material, and gets people laughing by breaking the ice!

I teach a lot of junior camps for a few different programs with kids ranging in age from 5-15. A lot of them are quiet and intimidated when they first come to the camps. To break the ice and get the kids talking, I've always used my crazy Loudmouth pants. They laugh and feel like I'm a goof, and I have no problem with this because it makes them more comfortable and open to coming to ask me questions during the camp.

Of the styles I'e purchased in the past I have acquired 4 pairs of which include:

Shagadelic Black

Lucky Pant

Blue & Gold Splash

Pazeltine Purple

There are only two things that I would consider before purchasing a great pair of these pants:
How will I be able to pick between all of the awesome designs, and the sizing.

With my experience, being compared to other companies, Loudmouth Pants run a little smaller in comparison to other brands. I would order the size of waist one larger than your usual in order to allow the small fit of the waist and shrinkage from the wash.

As saying from the beginning I've loved these pants for many reasons, and I hope that when you purchase your pair, you will too!

Click Here to get to the LOUDMOUTH Website in order to peruse the great selection they have and make your order! I will intermittently be posting photos of myself teaching junior camps while wearing the Loudmouth Pants!
I was fortunate enough to hear this great speaker: Andrew Rice, speak at the recent AGM of the Manitoba PGA. Andrew has such a list of incredible nods that if I tried to list them it would take an entire post. He provided new insight not only into how I teach, but view equipment, and the game itself.

One of Andrew's most recent posts involved the evaluation of golf ball technology over the years. I know that the little white ball that we try to hit seems like the focus of our frustration, but a lot of R&D money goes into that little golf ball to help us out. Andrew Rice conducted a study into the performance gaps and improvement credentials to verify that golf balls have truly gotten "better".

The full article is available at: http://www.andrewricegolf.com/andrew-rice-golf/2011/08/evolution-of-a-golf-ball

They review the most popular golf ball of recent history: the Titleist ProV1. To see how the ball has changed to the swing, spin, loft, and speed changes over the years is fascinating! They even take data from the old Balata ProV1!

In order to celebrate the new season's final arrival, we are celebrating with a contest as well as a few great announcements!

You will have a chance to win a $100 Gift Card to LoudMouth Golf!
We have teamed up with the MJT (Maple Leaf Junior Tour) for the 2014 season to support Junior Golf, and will be sponsoring golf nationwide!

Keep in touch in for details and to qualify for the Loudmouth Golf Card!
It's no surprise that companies, brands and products love to gain exposure within the realm of professional sports through athlete endorsements. Having their logo displayed on a golfers hat or polo for example, provides a subtle yet powerful link between that specific athlete and the accompanying brand. This strategy makes it easy for sports fans to associate the fame, talent, and glamour displayed by the athlete with the sponsoring company. "If Masters Champion Zach Johnson is wearing the Transamerica logo, they must be a great company!"

Athlete endorsements are an interesting concept... If you were a professional golfer, who's logo would you want displayed on your apparel? Would you sell out to the highest bidder, or would you look for companies with a specific brand appeal. On the flip side of the coin, if you were a large company, which professional golfer would you want representing your organization? Is it enough that the golfer is in the top 50 world rankings, or should their off the course lifestyle also be a determining factor? Of course, it's got to be a good fit for both parties, the company and the athlete, but what criteria should be considered?

Based on my experience in business, marketing and brand development, I think it's crucial for a company to find an athlete that is in sync with their corporate values, motto, morals and code of ethics, both on and off the golf course. For companies looking for a great athlete representative and advocate for their brand/image, I would argue that the most important quality to look for is servant leadership. As opposed to traditional leadership, which generally involves the accumulation and exercise of power, servant leaders share the power, cultivate a culture of trust, act with humility, and help others develop and perform to the best of their ability. Wondering what this looks like in the real world?
One example that comes to mind of a great pairing is that of Zach Johnson and Transamerica. As one of the world's leading financial services companies, Transamerica provides insurance, investments and more to 19.5 million customers. As such, when looking for athlete endorsement opportunities, they want someone who's behaviour is in sync with their vision of 'Transform Tomorrow®'. Someone who not only has a strong moral foundation, superior athletic ability, but also someone who is focused and involved with creating a better tomorrow. They've found all these qualities and more in the past Master's Champion, Zach Johnson.

With strong Christian values, Zach has built a reputation for his positive demeanor and work ethics both on and off the golf course. His PH3 philosophy (Practice Hard, Play Hard, Pray Hard) encapsulates his dedication and determination to his golfing career and to life in general. It's easy to see why Transamerica has been proudly supporting Zach since 2004, and why they continue to develop a mutually beneficial relationship.

On April 1st at 1:00pm EST, Transamerica will be conducting a Google Hangout with Zach Johnson! The Hangout will be part of a series focused on Team Transamerica. The first of the series will be taking place from Sea Island, Georgia, with Golf Channels' Steve Sands as the events host. Zach will be answering questions about how he, as a Masters Champion, prepares for the upcoming 2014 Masters Tournament. This year I am glad to say that I was given the privilege of playing Taylormade equipment. This past Tuesday I met the Manitoba Taylormade rep, Ron Bilawka, for lunch as we talked equipment, golf, and even parts of life. All in all, it was a great lunch to induce a growing anticipation for the upcoming golf season.

As we settled in we began to discuss what equipment would bets suit my game. Talking more and more into the equipment, I am proud to say that Ron knows everything about everything when it comes to any Taylormade and Adams equipment, including upgraded shaft options, their properties, etc. Overall the perfect club rep to set you up with clubs that will aid your game the most.

Once my equipment arrives (like an early spring Christmas) I will be doing in-depth reviews about my equipment so it may better inform you, the consumer, if you are looking to buy new clubs.

I am expecting:
Driver - Taylormade SLDR 430 TP - 12* - Graphite Design Di7x Shaft
Fairway - Taylormade SLDR 3HL - 17* - Graphite Design Di7x Shaft
Irons - Taylormade Tour Preferred MC - 3-Pw - Either Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 or KBS Tour V x-flex
Wedges - Tour Preferred - 52,56,60 - Matching iron shafts
Putter - Taylormade Daddy Long Legs - 36"
Bag - Taylormade TP Staff Bag

Once again, I am really looking forward to the arrival of my clubs, and cannot that Ron enough for all of his help.

This can include the scenery, difficulty, aesthetics of the course itself, and even including the clubhouse and staff. I recently had the privilege of playing in the Manitoba Pro-Am that takes place at The Classic at Madden's on Gull Lake Resort every year in late September.

With many "Top Golf Course" accolades from various organizations, the most prestigious award came from Golf Digest. Ranked 33rd Top Public Golf Course in America by Golf Digest, this course is impeccable. Of all the golf courses that I've played in my life from around the world, this was most likely my "one course".

As soon as our truck slipped into a parking spot we were greeted by backshop staff that gladly grabbed our clubs out of the bed of the truck. We had a short talk with them as they guided us to our designated golf carts and even managed to give our clubs a good scrub during the walk.

Walking into the clubhouse felt as if you were walking into that welcoming quaint cabin you always wished you had owned. This was exemplified by the courtesy of the staff, stone fireplace, comfortable couches, seating area, and patio. The restaurant side of the clubhouse served delectable food (of which my favourite was the Deluxe Clubhouse Sandwich), while the pro shop was fully stocked with all of the latest gear and clothing that if you had the budget, you would buy it all.

Now onto the important part…The Golf Course.

With many tee shots being blind over corners, bunkers, or hills, the rough being thick, bunkers protecting coveted pin placements, and greens as undulating and fast as tour speeds, this course demands a lot of thought and respect.

Second shot into hole 1

Many shots (1, 3, 10, 13-16) are cases of extreme risk-reward, enticing even the most conservative golfer for a great next-shot setup. Having these options of potential greatness, being shrouded in doubt (in the means of trees, water, sand, and having to immensely work the ball) makes this golf course one of the most entertaining golf experiences I've ever had. One of the advantages to The Classic at Madden's Resort is the positional play that is needed. For long ball hitters hybrids or long irons are favourable in order to have a controlled second shot into the green.

Once at the green the game of turning putting into an art form, rather than just another stroke, comes into play. At some points if you find yourself thinking "Am I really aiming that far out?" you should probably give it a few more feet of break.

In summary, the golf course conditions, difficulty, entertainment, food, hospitality, and atmosphere made it a pleasure to be at their facility. I would rate this a 5-Star facility where you can enjoy golf, accommodations (in the Madden's Lodge), and entertainment from amazing staff. Whether you're looking for a golf vacation, live in the area, are a scratch golfer, or golf just for the love of the game, I would highly recommend this golf course to anyone and everyone for an amazing experience.

Claiming to be longer, more accurate, more forgiving...but one tool in the arsenal of sticks that will struggle to find technological advancements will be the putter. Yes ok there is the newer inserts, and weights...but nothing will make it, or you, a "better" putter.

One advantage that actually will change your putting will be the way you hold the club. In particular, I'm referring to the grip. With the success of the Super Stroke grips on tour, non-tapered grips are giving strong evidence that they are a force to be reckoned with. One company that is playing with the non-tapered idea, but taking it to a custom, and extremely new level of custom would be Salty Grips.

The non-taper technology that Salty Grips use is not the only thing that they have incorporated into their grips that will help your game. Being made of cork they are lighter than their counterpart Super Stroke grips. I know you may be asking yourself: Why is lighter better? Well when you have a lighter grip it is much easier for you to feel the putter head throughout the swing and more importantly at impact.

Not only are they a fantastic feeling grip, but they're also durable. Here's what the company says about the process of their grips,

"The lightweight, durable bark layer of the cork oak grows thick enough to be harvested once a decade, and every Salty Grip can be traced back to a specific oak grove in Portugal. We take rings of this premium-quality cork, seal them together in a stack, lathe them to our exact design specifications, and seal the grip with a water-resistant polymer. "

Even ask Ryan Moore, who claimed that his spotty play for much of the year was because of his ribbed grips being installed 2-3 degrees closed, causing a draw from the shut face at impact.

Not only improperly installed grips affect your game, but worn out grips can too! The average grip should be replaced every 40 rounds or once per year. This is mainly because of heat, dirt, oils, rain, etc. that degrade the grip.
I went to Golf Central and gave the new set o' sticks a whirl.

The new Taylormade Rocketbladez Tour irons truly are amazing and prove that there really isn't any limits to technology and golf. Here's what Taylormade has to say about their flagship irons:

"Tour irons -- muscleback blades and muscle-cavity blades – have for decades remained very much the same in terms of construction and performance. RocketBladez Tour irons changes that with the Speed Pocket, which is the first innovation in tour irons that significantly affects the quality of the ball flight to promote a dramatic improvement in iron play.

The Speed Pocket works in conjunction with an improved Inverted Cone design to promote more ball speed, higher flight and significantly less speed loss on mis-hits low on the face. The result is keen distance-control and soft, quick-stopping landings that should help players consistently hit their approach shots closer to the hole.

RocketBladez Tour is the first distance-enhancing iron to be played on Tour, and has already been used to win three times, including by Dustin Johnson at the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions."

I've been playing the straight blade style irons for a few years now and it's always tough to move away from them because of the pure feel of them. However, after trying these out I understand why many of the Taylormade Staff Players made the change from blades to the Rocketbladez Tour.

The Rocketbladez irons come in a 4-pw + aw, and I had upgraded the shafts to True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts as well as Iomic Grips. The newly engineered "Speed Pocket" in the 4 though 7 irons greatly affect the trajectory and add at least 10-15 yards. All of the faces of the irons are milled to provide more spin on the ball.

I would suggest for anyone to try these ones who wants great performance, a better trajectory on their irons, fantastic feel, and lower scores!

As The Masters is underway and the cut has been made there is the ever present thoughts of how a timeless sport is changing. The changes that I am inferring are the demographics of the game age-wise. This becomes very clear when the 14 year-old Tianlang Guan from China had cleared the cut line.

When I was 14 I filled my summer with practicing at the range, playing out on the course, and working in the backshop. Never could I imagine playing in the biggest golf tournament on the world stage with the very golfers I watched on TV. The game is changing in a direction that is attracting a more youthful audience, and the proof is right in front of us. With golfers like Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and now Tianlang Guan, the sport is now inspiring the little swingers of today, to become the touring pros of tomorrow.

A popular choice for many golfers to venture out onto the links are golf carts. Over the years the technology even in golf carts has made leaps and bounds. From 3-wheeled carts, gas powered, electric powered, and even hybrid golf carts they are all aimed at making the golfer more comfortable during their round.
If the picture at the beginning of this post didn't tip you off, here's the reason for this post. Bubba Watson, defending Champion of The Masters, now owns a Hover-golf cart. Yes that's correct, while teaming up with hovercraft experts and Oakley Bubba Watson now uses the BW1, a Hovercraft designed into a golf cart! Check out the video below...

What's better; a Golf GPS, or the Laser Rangefinders?

I personally have used both and find that the yardages are quite similar and at most have been 5 yards off from each other. This however has it's separate meanings of course. I found that a GPS is much more accurate and easier when calculating distances to trees, water hazards, and bunkers. In saying that I found the laser rangefinder to be more accurate when getting the exact distances to pins.

There's always different models of each that you can purchase at various price points. If you're looking at either a GPS or laser rangefinder here are my recommendations that I've used or personally watched people use!
As you can tell the much anticipated golf season is taking its time to arrive, and many golfers are starting to get the itch! In order to scratch it, Winnipeg golfers always resort to dusting off the golf clubs that have been sitting in the corner all winter and go hit a few pre-season buckets. Below will highlight two of the main indoor practice facilities where golfers can get the itch relief they require...

As small flurries seem to persist and the cold snap refuses to melt the snow, it's that time of year when staff sets roll in the doors. Having the excitement of new golf clubs makes it truly a great time of year and just accentuates the golf itch every Canadian golfer feels throughout the winter.

The first club to arrive a few days ago was the most important club in the bag...the putter. I have tried almost all of the models of the Taylormade putters and really liked the look and feel of just about any one I put in my hands. I have always been a fan of the small mallet, or blade style putters because of their simplistic look. So while looking through the catalogue with the local TMaG (Taylormade-adidas Golf) Account/Sales Rep I decided to go with something different this year...the Ghost Spider S Putter (with a white Iomic grip installed) .

Obviously because of the lack of growing grass and excessive amount of snow putting outdoors is not only redundant, but an open invitation for frostbite! I have resorted to putting around the basement (which oddly enough is extremely close to the roll and pace of greens). At first I had doubts about the putter and was already looking at other models...until I actually used the Spider S.

Wow is all I can say...easy to align, great roll right off the face, and perfect weight. I'd suggest to anyone that golfs and wants to improve their putting to try out this club!

To go along with the recent "Golf Boys" Post Music is a part of everyday life, but to many people in the golf world it's always had a negative connotation. Now music is becoming more and more popular in the golf world whether it be when you're out with your friends hitting the links, or even when you're practicing those 3-footers on the putting green!

I grew up out in the country, so I grew up on country music, however listen to a little bit of everything. This is usually what I will listen to if I'm rockin' the headphones while practicing. So here is a few small playlists I'll usually listen to:

Driving Range
Big Green Tractor - Jason Aldean
Against the Grain - City and Colour
Free - Zac Brown Band
Double Bogey Blues - Tin Cup Soundtrack
Comes a Time - Neil Young
Everything - Michael Bublé
Don't - Billy Currington
The Wandering Kind - Josh Groban
French Shore - Great Big Sea

Putting and Practice Greens
Adagio for TRON - Tron Soundtrack
Do I - Luke Bryan
Fast - Jason Aldean
Thinking of you - Dierks Bentley
What a friend we have in Jesus (Instrumental) - Brad Paisley
Run Daddy Run - Miranda Lambert
Flyin' Down a Back Road - Justin Moore
Day That I Die - Zac Brown Band
El Mariachi - Once Upon a Time in Mexico Soundtrack
Train Travellin' - Dierks Bentley
Desperado - The Eagles

If there's any playlists or songs you like to listen to send them in an email to jordan@eatsleepgolf.ca18 Pins Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13721784528301580766noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7904600887836887756.post-33709125495370770602013-03-04T12:25:00.003-08:002013-03-04T12:25:56.003-08:00The Golf Boys Are Back! While there is a blizzard outside here in Winnipeg, it's great news that there's something to keep the hopes up for the golf season! Every time The Olympics are on the world seems to stop and definitely enjoy the world class athletes that are performing on the big stage. Arguably one of the top athletes of all time is Michael Phelps. This is simply proved by being the most decorated Olympian of all time with 22 Olympic Medals. Phelps is not only interested in being in the water all day, he now wants to pursue golf.

Phelps has said "One of the craziest things was when I got my first set of golf clubs, I wanted to do it just so give myself kind of something away from the pool that doesn't have to be always sort of focused around swimming." With that in mind who better to help him than Hank Haney on his show The Haney Project, premiering TONIGHT at 9:00 PM ET on The Golf Channel.

When asked more about golfing and his journey to where he is today with the sport, he responded: "I have friends that played in high school and played in college and I was able to go out with them, and at that point I was like, wow, maybe I'll just quit swimming and start golfing. But then we quickly decided that probably wasn't the best idea. So I decided to just do it as a hobby. Took about a year off after the Olympics to really focus on what I had to do there. And then sort of being able to travel the world and play some of the best golf courses and learn from the greatest golf coach, I think it's just like for me it's a cool opportunity of being able to learn a game that's so challenging."

So no questions asked this is one series I will definitely be recording and watching many times later. To see one of the top Olympians of all time strive to improve in another sport it will inspire me day-to-day as well as over time. Check out the video below of Haney and Phelps talking about the new Haney Project!
I don't know what was more unexpected; Snow in Arizona, or the ensuing upsets in Round 1 of the WGC Match Play Championships. With 2 of my main picks out early (Tiger and Rory) I was wondering who would take their place as my expected finalists or winner. For a full listing of scores from yesterday click here. Below you'll find the match-ups for Round 2, and my revised picks for who advances onto Round 3.

One booth I was extremely fortunate to visit at the 2013 PGA Buying Show was Chase54. Having partnered with them through Eat Sleep Golf I was already aware of the awesome, eco-friendly, and stylish designs they offered. Their motto is "Chase Perfection", and let me tell you after seeing their booth and all of their clothing, they are not far off.

As a PGA of Canada Golf Professional I'm always looking through the catalogues to see what companies are coming out with to keep up with fashion. I'm extremely picky when it comes to any clothing I own. With individualistic styles, matched only with unique fabrics Chase54 has hit the sweet spot when it comes when meeting class with technology.

Let me point out some of the favourite things about Chase54 apparel...

The Lining around the pockets (blue piping on these shorts)... It adds a little bit of flair and style to what is usually in a very bland spot.

The ingenious tee sleeves on the pockets... Makes a ton of sense so you don't run into the problem of the tees poking holes in your pocket.

And of course the unique patterns...

So If you want to add some great clothes from an innovative company to your wardrobe, I'd suggest to CHASE54!
